The concept for the HORSE THEMED ATTRACTION came about as the brainchild of horse breeder and
businessman, Steve Garvin. Steve, a native West Virginian and horse enthusiast, spent years researching the
viability of a project that would incorporate the unique attraction of the horse industry with the economically
profitable, vacation/theme park industry. Steve, whose business is the manufacturing and marketing of an
FDA approved, animal health care product, traveled extensively throughout the United States, attending
equine trade shows, horse shows of all disciplines and levels, endurance competitions, farrier conventions,
visiting horse breeding farms, working with the racing industry and taking advantage of any possible opportunity
to explore and research the equine industry.
He realized that the horse industry is a very economically profitable industry that contributes more than $102 billion
to the U.S. economy each year. While attending the various equine events, Steve observed that there was an element
missing at most of the events, entertainment for the participants and their families during the down times, in which the
participant was not showing or competing. Steve decided to explore the possibilities of bringing entertainment for the
families into the equation; thus, the Horse Themed Attraction concept was born.
Sometime in 2001, Steve was introduced to Matthew Martin of Matthew Martin DesignWorks, one of the leaders in theme
park design and construction, who had over twenty-five years of experience working with Disney and Universal Studios.
Martin's portfolio includes some of the most exciting and innovative theme parks around the world. (Please click on
"Team HTA") to find out more about the Horse Themed Attraction's Design Team. It's well worth it to check them out!
To make a long story short, Steve told Matthew about his idea for the Horse Themed Attraction, a concept so new and
"never been seen before" that Martin and his team were sold on the idea and went to work researching the project in the
theme park industry. After considerable research, Matthew Martin DesignWorks (located in California), along with Morris
Architects (specializing in theme park construction) and Management Resources, vetted the Horse Themed Attraction and
joined the team, (Team HTA).
A feasibility study was conducted in 2007 and the ideal site (north central West Virginia) was selected. Due to the prime
location, being centrally located, it was determined that the theme park would attract tourists from every direction, as well
as, pull in visitors who were traveling through West Virginia to other vacation destinations and equine events and competitions.
Why not capitalize on the tourism industry, while bringing a proven, economic "golden goose", (the horse industry) to West
Virginia? The creation of high paying jobs, the influx of millions of dollars in tax revenue, the explosion of satellite businesses
necessary to support the project, the revival of the dormant agricultural industry could only bring progress and prosperity to
West Virginia. Every county would benefit, not only from the infusion of tax dollars, but also from the showcasing of all of
West Virginia's best features, her tourist attractions. West Virginians would have an opportunity to be the home of the only
vacation destination theme park, (based upon the horse in the world), the third largest theme park in the country.
The Horse Themed Attraction is for everyone, not just for horse lovers and enthusiasts... We welcome everyone to participate
in the bringing of the park to West Virginia and encourage you to sign the petition, and or to contact us with comments, suggestions
or concerns regarding the park.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Horse Themed Attraction and ... we'll see you at the park!
